When a bomb endangers the Pha Tang temple, 'Satu' an orphan child laborer decides to head north through the rich and feral landscape of Laos in search of his long lost mother with his new photojournalist friend 'Bo'.The soundtrack features an eclectic mix of string quartet, electric guitar, synthesisers and traditional Laos instrumentation such as the percussive ‘Ranat’ and the beautiful mouth organ ‘Khaen’. The ‘Khaen’ is the iconic symbol of music in Laos. The synths utilised in the film were created utilising original Laos instrumentation as the source, tying together the traditional and western elements of the soundtrack. SATU - YEAR OF THE RABBIT premiered at Raindance Film Festival on June 22nd 2024. It has also been selected for the Cambodian International Film Festival and the Nara International Film Festival. It won the Golden Shika Award in Nara and was shortlisted for the British Independent Film Awards and BAFTA Cymru.The score was nominated for Best Original Score at the International Sound &amp; Film Music Festival 2024.Watch Satu -
